Displaying the movement of a neutral to support on a switch.
Set Up
- Four quadrants contain a player from each team in them. The players are assigned to one quadrant each.
- Two neutral players (blue) are allowed freedom of movement to any grid to support the ball carrier.
- The team in possession attempts to maintain possession for as long as possible.
- Coach restarts play on a ball leaving the playing area.
Scoring
- Possession passing targets can be set (i.e. 10 consecutive passes).
- OR Successfully transferring the ball from one quadrant to another 3 times.
Coaching Points
- Checking towards the football to create supporting angles.
- Attract pressure to create space.
- Overloads to help maintain possession.
- Penetrating passing via 3rd line passing channels.
- Control the tempo and rhythm of play.
- Receive in an open body position, facing the field.
- Transitioning quickly into attacking shape (expanding).
Progressions
- Minimum of 4 passes in each quadrant before switching.
- Limit the touches of specific players.
- Possession team is allowed to switch quadrants.
